Courses at MALI – AP stress the basic language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Class size will not exceed five students, in order to provide the optimal atmosphere for language learning. The institute offers some assistance in arranging trips to places of historical and cultural significance.
Our typical program is four hours a day, five days a week for ten week terms. There's a one week half-term break.
Prior to being placed in the program a test will be administered to determine at which level the student will enter. In addition to the standard courses listed below, MALI can provide for individual and tailored courses to cater to different needs. Please send your inquiries.

Notes on Texts:
1. "Kitaab Al-Kitaab" is used to refer to the following text: Al-Kitaab fii Ta'allum al-'Arabiyya, Third Edition (published by Georgetown University Press) with DVDs.
2. "A New Method" refers to A New Method to Speak, Read and Write Arabic (published by Dar El-Chimal, Tripoli, Lebanon).
3. "Yemeni Arabic" refers to Kitaab Ta'aleem Al-Lughah Al-'Arabiyya: Al-Lahja Al-Yemenia (Originally used by the Peace Corps)
Basic Level
The basic level is designed for those who have little or no background in Arabic.
Students will learn to read and write using the Arabic alphabet, and learn to conduct simple conversations for everyday situations.
Intermediate Level
Students at this level must have a basic knowledge of spoken Arabic and be able to use the Arabic alphabet to read and write at the basic level. At this stage, the primary emphasis is to reinforce the knowledge of grammar and syntax while greatly increasing knowledge of non-technical vocabulary. The final objective is to speak with confidence in informal situations.
Advanced Level
Advanced students should be able to speak with confidence in most situations, and be capable of reading and writing in most subjects with relative proficiency. The advanced level emphasizes overall reading comprehension and advanced writing skills. Newspapers and books will be used for class work and independent study. Upon completion of this level students will be able to translate with a high degree of proficiency and will possess skills acceptable for professional use.
