Arabic courses at MALI - AP stress the basic
language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Class size does not exceed four students, in order to provide
the optimum learning atmosphere and maximum opportunity to
practice speaking the language inside as well as outside of
the classroom. MALI believes language and culture are
sisters, each enhancing the understanding of the other, and so
stresses lectures, field trips, and other opportunities for
cultural immersion.
Our typical program is four hours a day,
five days a week for terms of five weeks. MALI conducts
diagnostic testing to ensure the best match between students
and classes.
In addition to the standard courses
listed below, MALI provides individually tailored courses to
best meet different needs. Please send us your inquiries.
Basic Level (300 hours divided
into three sub-levels)
The basic level is designed for those
who have little or no background in Arabic. Students will
learn to read and write using the Arabic alphabet, and learn
to conduct simple conversations for use in everyday
situations. A vocabulary base is established and students are
introduced to basic grammar.
Intermediate Level
(600 hours divided into three sub-levels)
Students at this level have a basic
knowledge of spoken Arabic and are able to use the Arabic
alphabet to read and write simple sentences. At this stage,
our instructors reinforce knowledge of grammar and syntax
while greatly increasing knowledge of non-technical
vocabulary. At the end of this level the student will be able
to speak with ease and confidence in informal situations.
Advanced Level (600 hours
divided into three sub-levels)
Advanced students should be able to
speak with confidence in most situations, and be capable of
reading and writing on different subjects with relative
proficiency. The advanced level emphasizes overall reading
comprehension and advanced writing skills. Newspapers and
books will be used for class work and independent study. Upon
completion of this level students will be able to translate
with a high degree of proficiency and will possess skills
acceptable for professional use. |
